New speaker of the House!

Posted at 11:16 PM on November 7, 2006 by Sandy Peatrowsky (2 Comments)

I just heard the new Speaker of the House of Representatives who is a woman (Nancy Pelosi). I am frankly excited. She says that she promises to create an atomosphere of bipartisanship. I'm for it!

I'm also revved up by the whole political excitement, optimism, and change. I plan to return to some (no doubt healthy) cynicism next week, or next month at the latest.

Still, I'm excited to see our country's democratic process in action. I'd love to stay up all night and watch returns, but I have work tomorrow. Still, I'm pleased that Nancy is pushing for less division. It could be a good sign.

Maybe that's the best thing about our system. Maybe it's our endless optimism that this time, this group of people will do it right, or at least better.

really hit home - I've picked up on feelings of euphoria when speaking to others about the change in the control of the House. The same feeling as when your favorite football team wins. Go Broncos! ( instead of Vikings, because I am from Colorado).
So hopefully, this optimism will bring forth positive changes -- it rests on whether Mr. Bush will play nice with his new, more powerful, playmates. And I'd like to see a PLAN by the Dems, outlining the details of their strategies for Iraq and for getting our defense spending under control. It's time to investigate Haliburton's mismanagement of our tax dollars! It's time to stop the funding of Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Why are we giving them billions?

Another comment on woman in politics: when discussing Hilary Clinton
and her run for president, I commented to my sister: 'I would support her if shedidn't support the war'. Her response: 'oh she's just playing
the game - women don't support war'.

Women don't support war? I know I don't, nor do my women friends, but
I never really thought about an entire gender not supporting war.

I hope this IS the case - it makes Nancy Pelosi sound even better, as well
as Hilary.
