Fiscal conservative seeks sanity!

I admit it. I'm a fiscal conservative. To be honest, that is the main reason I'm in the Republican Party. I don't make a good fit on many (most?) of the issues, but I always come back to the fact that I think the government should stay out of my life, and only do what is needed (yes, it smacks of Libertarianism). Now, being someone who doesn't want to spend lots (and that is the understatement of the year) of money on the military, I was very interested in seeing the oreo video http://www.truemajority.org/oreos/
Go ahead. You know you want to see it.
Done? Now, that really seems to make sense, right? So I joined Truemajority. Finally, I found a group of people who don't want to argue over what I consider ethical issues (abortion or flag burning).
Whoops! What is this in my inbox? Truemajority wants me to contact my representative. Why? The war, censorship, the environment, nuclear proliferation, President Bush. Now I'm no rocket scientist, but I've realized that I've joined a very liberal organization. Sigh. Why does my view on the budget mean I want the other things they want (greater spending on public transportation, natural resources, etc)?
I've been pidgeonholed.
Today I got another letter from the Republicans. They want money so that they can stop these horrible liberal candidates from ruining our country. I am ticked off. Why do they assume that I buy into everything that the Republican National Committee endorses? I've been pidgeonholed again.
I think the polarization of politics is really a problem. Do you fit nicely into the box?

I don't think anyone fits nicely into boxes. When I start going off on an anti-war rant, people assume I'm some kind of ultra-liberal. But, like yourself, I think we need some kind of fiscal sanity. Where's the party that's going to spend responsibly without dragging along an extreme social agenda?
Personally, I'm voting for the IP this year, across the board, despite the extreme unlikelihood of any IP victories. I just can't, in good conscience, vote for more of the same from the big parties.
I'm also going to support the instant runoff ballot initiative in Minneapolis.

I think you are so right. Most of us don't fit in nice groups and actually have independent thoughts. I'm glad to see there is someone out there singing that tune.
