What we know

At the end of the fifth day of the shutdown, there's still no budget deal. Lawmakers met briefly round 2:30 p.m., but left without any noticeable progress.

The group is slated to meet again at 1:30 p.m.Wednesday for more talks.

Here's a round up of other shutdown news.

Truckers are petitioning the special master to keep rest stops open during the shutdown. They say the closures make it more difficult for them to make their mandatory rests.

Former Vice President Walter Mondale and former Gov. Arne Carlson are forming a commission to suggest ways to end the budget stalemate. Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty weighs in, criticizing the duo for supporting "more spending and higher taxes in Minnesota."

Tourists aren't letting the shutdown crimp their style.

Gov. Mark Dayton is asking the special master to recommend that previously closed critical services remain open. His latest list includes state child care support and domestic violence services.

I am hoping that Gov Mark Dayton gets the special master to reopen the state child care support and domestic violence services....they both are critical services that should of stayed open!!! I do daycare for my cousin and I was told to continue doing it even though its not for certain they;ll be able to pay me for my care during the shut down that if they dont have the money that my cousin will have to pay me...I am thinking how can my cousin pay me? when my cousin cant afford daycare that is why my cousin has the daycare assistance program. Please PLEASE make sure this is open and that i get paid by the county and not make my cousin have to pay me because it will most likely be in payments n i need this next check for rent and if i dont get it i will be stuck payin huge late fees for rent again.....

also for the domestic violence services they should remain open due to women (and men) and thier children depend on them in time of need....what if a woman (or man) gets the courage to leave thier attacker and you turn them down than they are thinking i cant be helped and goes back to their attacker and ends up in the hospital with SERIOUS injuries or WORSE??....SIX FEET UNDER?? and it goes back to this shutdown n it;ll make ya think that if only ya got the budget put together in time you could of saved the poor soul who got the courage to get help than got turned down n SUFFERED even more for it!!! so PLEASE get BOTH of these services and ALL of the others back n running before something like this happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
