A bill being proposed in the Minnesota Senate would dedicate a portion of Hwy 23 to slain Cold Spring Police Officer Tom Decker.

Sen. Michelle Fischbach, R-Paynesville, is introducing the legislation on Tuesday to rename part of Highway 23 from the "east border of the township of Wakefield to the west border of the city of Richmond as "Officer Tom Decker Memorial Highway."

Decker was killed in November after responding to a call that a man was possibly suicidal. The investigation into the crime remains open but public safety officials say a person of interest in the case killed himself after a standoff with police.

Fischbach isn't the only lawmaker looking to remember Decker. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann has introduced legislation to rename a post office in his honor.
