Republican Richard Mourdock's comments on rape have increased the furor over social issues in this country. Mourdock is in a tight Senate race in Indiana.
Mitt Romney's campaign said he disagrees with Mourdock's assertion but will continue to back him.
President Obama said on NBC's Tonight Show that "rape is rape."
Mitt Romney says he's upbeat about his chances but the electoral college math is still the same.
Polling shows the national race tied but swing state polls continue to favor Obama.
Romney will deliver an economic speech on Friday.

A group calling itself "Regular Folks of the Range" says it will air an ad at least 1,600 times on regional cable channels throughout northeastern Minnesota. Duluth-based construction worker and documentary producer Tom Selinski produced the anti-Cravaack spot.
"Part of what irritated me, got me to do this, was the amount of money being dumped in here and it's not from around here," said Selinski.
Selinski's said his ad features Iron Range miners. Among other things, they criticize Cravaack for a being a friend of businesses not workers.
Selinski said he produced the ad at his own expense and that he's close to raising the nearly $10,000 cost of airing it.
Outside groups have spent more than $ 6.3 million on the race in Minnesota's 8th District with spending opposing Cravaack outpacing spending opposing Nolan by about $1 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics

Eighth District Congressman Chip Cravaack's campaign says it raised $227,000, October 1st through October 17th. The Republican incumbent ended the latest reporting period with $904,000 in campaign cash on hand.
The new numbers put Cravaack's fundraising total for the 2012 election cycle at $2.16 million.
Cravaack's Democratic challenger, former Congressman Rick Nolan has not released his latest fundraising numbers. But for the year through September, Nolan had raised $814,000.
Although the two candidates bring millions to the race, spending by outside groups is far greater. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, outside spending on Minnesota's 8th District stands at more than $6.3 million. The center's analysis finds spending against Cravaack is outpacing spending to oppose Nolan, by about $1 million.
UPDATE:
Cravaack's DFL challenger, former Congressman Rick Nolan raised $198,000 during the latest reporting period, putting Nolan's running total at a little more than $1 million. Nolan had $477,000 cash-on-hand as of October, 17, 2012.

Republican Kurt Bills is running an ad that alleges DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar declined to prosecute Tom Petters because he was a campaign contributor. MPR says Klobuchar, the U.S. Attorney who prosecuted the case, the Hennepin County Attorney's office and the trustee for Petter's victims all say the allegations lack credibility.
Amendment to Ban Same-Sex Marriage
The group backing the amendment started running an ad raising the specter of teaching same-sex marriage in schools.
Former GOP state Rep. John Berns says he'll vote no on the amendment.
Voter ID Amendment
MPR says Human Rights Commissioner Kevin Lindsey is openly campaigning against both amendments saying they're discriminatory. Republicans are criticizing him for making the comments.
