Brodkorb, Senate face court-ordered settlement talks

A U.S. district court judge has ordered former Minnesota Senate Republican staffer Michael Brodkorb and the state into confidential settlement talks.
Judge Arthur Boylan ordered that the private meeting occur on Sept. 24 at 9 a.m., according to documents filed with the court today.
A week before the talks, attorneys for both parties must submit a confidential letter outlining their settlement options. Boylan also ordered that both parties remain mum on the details of the case until the court says they can talk.
Brodkorb was fired late last year after it was discovered he was having an affair with former Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch. He subsequently sued the state saying he was wrongfully terminated.
It also appears that five counts in Brodkorb's lawsuit have been dismissed, including several invasion-of-privacy claims, according to today's court documents.
Last week, there was some confusion over whether Brodkorb had decided to narrow his case.

It is regretful that this did not occur well before the legal bills went north of $100,000.
Brodkorb's attorney, Phil Villaume, charges over $500 an hour. They want the State to pay his fees if they win. What is his bill at so far?
