DFL Sen. Al Franken is ramping up his opposition to the proposed merger between cable giant Comcast and NBC Universal. Franken sent an e-mail to supporters saying the merger would be a "disaster."

"When the same company owns the content and the pipes that deliver that content, consumers lose," Franken said in the video statement.

Franken also called for his supporters to sign a petition opposing the merger.

Comcast executives have disputed Franken's claim saying it would lead to more programming choices and "ownership diversity."

Freedom of Speech will be gone with a single 'business' deal with Comcast. Our Nation, our World deserves to speak and think freely with one another. Make no mistake, it's in peril.

I agree with Senator Franken. One company controlling so much of our media is a disaster waiting to happen. Do what you can to STOP IT.
