Another cabinet move

As Gov. Mark Dayton was naming his DEED commissioner his morning, another commissioner was making news -- from the Pawlenty administration.

Former Minnesota Housing Finance Agency head Tim Marx is coming back to the Twin Cities to helm Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

He served five years as the MNHA commissioner (through 2008), and was a former St. Paul city and Briggs & Morgan attorney, as well as a one-time deputy mayor under Norm Coleman during the late 1990s.

Marx left the state to run New York City based Common Ground, a nonprofit housing and community development organization. Common Ground is known as a national-level provider of supporting housing and aid to the homeless.

Marx is succeeding Paul Martodam, who has battled cancer since his appointment as the first non-cleric to helm the state's largest non-profit, non-governmental social service agency. Martodam will remain as chief strategic officer for the charity.

Marx will be talking to MPR's Tom Crann during All Things Considered later today.
