New Emmer statement: Race still too close to call

Down by 9,057 votes with all precincts reporting, Republican governor candidate Tom Emmer just put out this statement:

With nearly 100% of precincts reporting, this race is still too close to call. The margin that currently separates Senator Dayton and me is currently within the automatic recount trigger. There is a process in law that will ensure that we arrive at a conclusive result, ensuring that all valid votes are counted and the will of the voters is met.

Separately, Gov. Tim Pawlenty also noted, "there is a process in place to provide the people of Minnesota with a final result as quickly as fairness and the law allows."

Elizabeth Dunbar has a good piece on this elsewhere on the MPR site. How can Mark Ritchie be so confident of his process based on what Liz Dunbar reported:

"Dayton's lead shrunk at one point when election officials in Hennepin County realized that a data file on vote totals that was supposed to replace older data instead added about 60,000 votes to the total. Officials corrected the error."

This is nuts! Hennepin Co. went for Dayton 51% to 36% -- it follows that adding 60,000 Hennepin votes would typically INCREASE Dayton's lead, not narrow it. Something does not make sense here !!!!

Great reporting Liz please keep digging on this Hennepin vote count irregularity !!!
