Gov. Pawlenty, who is scheduled to be on Comedy Central's Daily Show on Thursday, said he expects the discussion with host John Stewart to focus on the news of the day. When asked if he wanted to try out any lines on the press corps, Pawlenty responded that his advice for anyone going on that show is not to be funnier than Jon Stewart.
"He's the king of the show," Pawlenty said.
Pawlenty thinks he could be funnier than Jon (sic) Stewart? Intentionally or unintentionally? That's pretty funny.
If I were Gov Pawlenty, I would want to be well prepared to explain how signing spending bills while vetoing revenue bills is consistent with fiscal conservatism.
I might also want to be prepared to explain how my office budget & staff grew after I promised to shink the governor's office.
The Daily Show has an army of interns that generate background for these interviews; unprepared guests can end up being a little more embarrassed than they initially expect.
If I were Pawlenty, I'd be prepared to explain to Stewart my close ties to major campaign contributor/convicted money launderer/Tom Petters Ponzi associate Frank Vennes Jr. Especially why I made the extraordinary move of requesting a presidential pardon for Vennes.
Pawlenty's not going to be asked about all that stuff. Nobody will know what he's talking about. Stewart is going to ask about BP, health care, immigration, the tone of GOP rhetoric, etc., and other national issues.
