Chris Pfeifer was the first candidate to address the convention.
He told the delegates he is a long-time party member. He said all the candidates are good, but his experience should be considered. He said the economy is so bad the state needs to spend money. To do it he said Minnesota should temporarily raise taxes.
On health insurance he said a single payer system would not work. He called instead for everyone to pay their own bills, and those who can't pay would be paid for by the government. His goal is to eliminate insurance companies. He said the IP could lead the nation by supporting such a system.
Pfeifer said the IP has come across as exclusive and elitist, but that is not the case. He invited people to join the party and run under its banner.
"If you want an interesting and meaningful primary, I think you know how to vote today," he said.
