GOP Senate Minority Leader Dave Senjem announced today that's he's backing Republican Marty Seifert's campaign for governor. Senjem said he thinks Seifert is best suited to be governor.

"I think he's got the right style and right temperament and would be a great governor. I certainly look forward to working with him when he's elected," Senjem said.

Senjem's backing may not mean much statewide but carries some credibility in the halls of the State Capitol and in Olmsted County. The second biggest delegation of delegates are from Olsted County. Wright County - Tom Emmer's home district- has the most.

Seifert said he's "pleased as punch" that Senjem is backing him. He said he's one of the top Republican leaders in the State Capitol.

"He's in the top three leaders in state government and also carries a lot of respect statewide and in Rochester," Seifert said.

The two worked together as GOP minority leaders for several years (Seifert resigned that post when he announced he was running for governor).

Seifert and Emmer are engaged in a tough battle for the GOP endorsement for governor. When asked if he's winning the race for GOP delegages, Seifert replied "It's tough to tell." This is the second time this week that Seifert or one of his backers brought up Seifert's "temperament." Expect that to be a key campaign issue over the next two months as Seifert tries to distinguish himself from Emmer.
