Canada's Consul General for the Upper Midwest, Martin Loken will address the Minnesota Legislature tomorrow at noon. Here's the release:
CONSUL GENERAL OF CANADA SPEAKS TO MINNESOTA LEGISLATUREST. PAUL, MN - Martin Loken, Canada's Consul General for the Upper Midwest, will give an address to the Minnesota State Legislature at noon Monday, March 1. His visit will mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of Canada's Diplomatic Office in Minnesota.
Canada remains Minnesota's most important trading partner. It consistently purchases nearly a third of the state's exports. The Minnesota House of Representatives will pass a resolution honoring Minnesota's strong relationship with Canada.
"Thousands of Minnesotans' jobs depend on trade with Canada. Many families in our state have relatives and friends in Canada," said Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher. "It's important to recognize those familial and economic connections, and today's resolution does that."
Consul General Loken is Canada's senior representative in the Upper Midwest states of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. During the course of his studies, he worked for a time at the Biodynamics Research Unit at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. His wife Marianne is a native of Minnesota. The couple has two children.
Consul General Loken's address to the Legislature will be broadcast live by House Public Information Services and available at: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/htv/schedule.asp
