Gov. Tim Pawlenty today called for a special election to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of state Sen. Dick Day, R-Owatonna.
Day announced last week he was giving up his seat after 19 years to begin lobbying full time for a racino proposal to add slot machnines at two horse racing tracks.
The special election in Senate District 26 is scheduled for Jan. 26. A special election primary, if needed, would be Jan. 12. The candidate filing period runs from Dec. 23 until 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 29.
