We'll get a better understanding on February 2nd of who is garnering the most support among party activists in the race for governor.

Kristin Sosanie, with the Minnesota DFL, said the party will hold a gubernatorial preferential ballot on the night of the caucuses to gauge support of the DFL candidates. There are currently eleven DFL candidates running for governor.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Republican Party spokesman Mark Drake said the party will hold a similar straw poll on caucus night. There are currently seven Republicans running for governor.

The results are nonbinding and won't determine which candidate will win the endorsement at the April conventions. But it does give the public a better understanding of which candidates have momentum.
