Severson files for Secretary of State run

Posted at 8:55 AM on October 6, 2009 by Tom Scheck

GOP Rep. Dan Severson has filed the paperwork to organize a campaign committee to run for Minnesota Secretary of State against DFL incumbent Mark Ritchie. The filing comes as no surprise since Severson handed out campaign literature at last weekend's MNGOP State Convention saying he was going to run.

Republicans and GOP leaning groups will make a big push to win the Secretary of State's office in 2010. Many Republicans say Ritchie "stole the 2008 U.S. Senate election" when DFLer Al Franken defeated Republican Norm Coleman. A hand recount of all of the votes and subsequent court challenges declared Franken the winner and no evidence of fraud was found in the race.
