Senate GOP wants ACORN probe

Republicans in the Minnesota Senate have joined the call for an investigation of the community organizing group ACORN.

Twenty one members of the GOP caucus signed a letter asking Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson to look into ACORN's voter registration activity. The letter refers to news reports and investigations in other states, but it makes no specific allegations of any wrongdoing in Minnesota.

"The integrity of our elections is not negotiable, and the attorney general has the responsibility to investigate whether the alleged fraud that is being questioned widely across the nation is also an issue in Minnesota," said Sen. Amy Koch, R-Buffalo, in a caucus news release.

It's the same request made two weeks ago by five GOP candidates for governor, who joined the group Minnesota Majority in calling for an ACORN investigation. Minnesota Majority has raised voter fraud allegations before that were rejected by state and county election officials.

ACORN officials have said they stand by their voter registration efforts in Minnesota.
