DFL Rep. Collin Peterson has come out firmly against the health care proposal in the U.S. House. He told the McLeod County Chronicle that he has issues with the proposal:

"I wish people would quit asking about the public option because it's not what the issue is. This is complete ideology run amuck. The issue is we are not reforming Medicare. We are adding more entitlements without being able to pay for the entitlements we have now."

On the Medicare-payment reform studies in the House bill, Peterson added, "There are not reforms there, it's a study."

"I mean. I have so many problems with this bill I don't even know where to start - too much government bureaucracy, not making the reforms that we need to make in the health care system overall.

"I don't think there's any way that I could support what they're doing unless they start over. That's how bad it is."

Can somebody remind where where Rep. Peterson actually agrees with Democrats? Doesn't want real health care reform, doesn't want climate change legislation, pro-life...what exactly makes him a Democrat?

Might as well have a Republican in that district.

Thank-you Congressman Peterson! I agree completely w/ your views on the current House health legislation. The issue is not a public option, but instead involves actual medicare and medicaid reform. Health care reform is needed, we all agrees on that. Fortunately for all tax payers principled leaders like Collin Peterson are addressing the legislative issues . In my view, reform is needed on health care, not finger wagging aabout which party is right. Thank-you again Congressman for your sound leadership. Bob Sixta Rochester, MN

Correction - Collin Peterson does believe in global climate change, he voted for the Cap and Trade bill!

He also voted for stimulus and is in favor of card check.

Yeah, Peterson does support some legislation of his own party. But his refusal to support health care is a huge failure to help the nation. He says the bill isn't paid for, but in fact it is. It will also reduce health care costs. Do a comparison to other countries on health care. We pay more and get less. Collin Peterson apparently believes this situation is good. He favors 17000 children dying over a decade for lack of insurance (John Hopkins) and 45,000 people a year (Harvard), rather than providing these people with insurance. Let's see: 45,000 is about 15 x the number that died on 9/11.
What does national security actually mean to Collin Peterson?
