Bachmann warns of abortions at school

Posted at 2:57 PM on October 1, 2009 by Tom Scheck (2 Comments)

GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann is warning that a health bill that includes school based clinics would allow schools to give their students abortions without the parents ever knowing.

The Hill reports that Bachmann warned that the plan could bring Planned Parenthood into schools. You can watch the video here:

Media Matters (which posted the speech on YouTube) also posted her full comments here.

For the record...

Minnesota already has a law forbidding what Bachmann is talking about. The state's parental consent law (see page 56) says both parents have to be notified or seek judicial approval for the procedure. NCSL also has a list of where other states stand on parental consent.

This is absurd. Sadly I think she really believes the loony ideas she spouts.

Her fear of what the government will do is wildly misplaced. We have plenty to worry about with things like the Patriot Act intruding on our civil liberties.

But there is no way that any school in America would ever dare to get involved in abortion. School administrators would be flayed for it.

It's more baseless fear-mongering. Meanwhile, our Supreme Court will probably grant unlimited corporate personhood in the next few months, and that will cause far more grief, suffering and doom than anything that health care reform might.

Why does Bachmann oppose children receiving health care services? Apparently Congressman Grayson of Florida is correct -- the Republican health care plan is "Die Quickly". Bachmann opposes all federal health care reform, but does support the right of insurance companies to cancel coverage for women that develop breast cancer or deny coverage to families that have a kids with asthma.

As for schools performing abortions, this would be funny if if wasn't sad that Bachmann feels that lying advances her cause. What's next? "Schools are cloning baby Barack Obamas!" "Schools are cloning babies in order to harvest and sell their organs to the Chinese Communists!".

The saddest thing about this is that a mentally ill person saying crazy things would be pitied. Bachmann saying crazy things gets her press from mainstream media outlets and some people listen.

For example, Bachmann said Americans should resist the Census because it was anti-liberty and within days a Census Bureau worker was killed in Kentucky and the word "Fed" was carved on his chest. Coincidence? I don't think so, but did Bachmann apologize or soften her rhetoric? The story above shows she was encouraged to ramp up the rhetoric.
