Five Republican candidates for governor signed a letter today asking Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson to investigate the community organizing group ACORN.

Pat Anderson, Tom Emmer, Bill Haas, Paul Kohls and Marty Seifert say they're concerned about possible voter irregularities that might be linked to ACORN. They joined the political Minnesota Majority in calling for the investigation. Minnesota Majority President Jeff Davis has raised voter fraud allegations before that have been rejected by state and county election officials. But Davis says 15 other states are already investigating ACORN.

"I just say that we need to look at this, scrutinize it," Davis said. "There's more than ample evidence that would justify a formal investigation into this matter."

Kevin Whelan, ACORN's national deputy political director, says the organization stands by its voter registration efforts in Minnesota.

Sadly missing from almost all reporting about this is the fact that Ramsey County has already convicted 5 people felons for illegally registereing to vote. At least one of them was registered by a paid canvasser (who else but ACORN is doing that?), and two of them have voter histories in the secretary of state's statewide voter registration system that indicate they illegally VOTED in 2008. By comparing Bureau of Criminal Apprehension files with the statewide voter registration system, Minnesota Majority found an additional 2,800 matches between felon records and records of people who VOTED in 2008.

Over 100 people are under investigation for illegally registereing to vote in Ramsey County alone. 5 have pled guilty, 18 are now charged. Reporting on that? Nada. Nice.

I sign a bunch of letters every day on various subjects and I don't call a news conference.
And further, if I did no one would come. It's ridiculous to hold a news conference to announce that your'e signing or sending a letter. When I was invited to attend the farce
I told them to send the letter FIRST with a timeline to answer and then complain if the AG doesn't take action. Using the media for gotcha politics is ugly. Why would the media even cover it? Aaaaagggghhhhh!

I am relieved that here in Minnesota ACORN will be investigated.

They were also involved with the 2010 census but were consequently let go because of increased political pressure to investigate.

Michele Bachmann has been outspoken in her concerns with ACORN and potential abuse of private information regarding the census.

Leslie Davis for Governor?

You gotta be kidding. You are running for governor?

I read your comment on a previous article regarding Ron Paul supporters lining up behind Pat Anderson.

Thumbs down. Enough said.
