New party chairman says Republicans feel robbed

Posted at 3:27 PM on July 1, 2009 by Tim Pugmire (4 Comments)

As Democrats celebrated Al Franken's long-delayed U.S. Senate victory, Republicans were still criticizing the court ruling that gave him the seat.

State GOP Chairman Tony Sutton says he thinks the Minnesota Supreme Court was wrong in its ruling against Norm Coleman. Sutton told reporters today that he's convinced the inconsistent handling of absentee ballots disenfranchised thousands of Minnesota voters. Coleman conceded to Franken shortly after Tuesday's ruling. But Sutton said many Republicans are ticked off that Franken won.

"The feeling among the activists that I've talked to even in the last 24 hours, Republican leaders around the state, is we got robbed," Sutton said. "And this guy's got a bigger asterisk next to his name than Barry Bonds. We got to work. This will be a motivator for us in the coming election."

And two wrongs don't make a right. When hundreds of people get their votes counted twice, and others don't get counted at all, you have a crime taking place and it shouldn't be tolerated, I don't care whom it favors.

How can you live with yourself after that? Well I guess some people don't have a conscience....if he wants it he got it, but who will really respect him now? His stench will follow him all the way to Washington.....

I agree that Al Franken stole the election, but what does that say about Coleman's legal team? They sat by and let it happen. What a waste of money. And why hardly any mention of that last-minute lawsuit down in Texas, the one that was filed during the waning weeks of the campaign? That was a typical dirty politics smear tactic, and it cost Coleman hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands, of votes. All I want to say is this: if Coleman runs for Governor, he had better take off the kid gloves and get ready for a street fight. Enough of the MN Nice. We had enough of that during Mark Kennedy's luke warm run for Senator.
