Hearing next week for Minnesota ambassador nominees

The U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations will hold a hearing Wednesday on four ambassador nominations. Two Minnesotans are among the nominees.

President Barack Obama recently named Miguel Humberto Diaz, a professor of theology at Saint John's University and the College of Saint Benedict, as ambassador to the Vatican. He also picked Minneapolis lawyer Samuel Kaplan as ambassador to Morocco.

State GOP will hold gubernatorial forum, straw poll in October

Republican Party of Minnesota Chair Tony Sutton announced today that a state convention will be held October 3, 2009, at the St. Paul RiverCentre. The event will include a straw poll of GOP gubernatorial candidates. In addition, Sutton said the party will host a GOP gubernatorial candidate forum the night before. The forum is scheduled October 2 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown St. Paul.
