All eyes are on the Red River Valley and the potential for flooding. Gov. Pawlenty also visited the area. The state is also offering flood assistance.

Gov. Pawlenty is headed to Fort Lewis, Washington today to hold a townhall meeting with soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard's 34th Red Bull Infantry Division.

A bill to be introduced today would create a consolidation of counties and name it Lake Wobegon County.

PIM handicaps Gov. Pawlenty's chances for a third term although the speculation that Mark Dayton is the likely DFL nominee is sketchy according to most loyal and non-loyal Democrats I've spoken with.

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman sends out a statement on the flooding in the Red River Valley. It builds speculation that Coleman is looking beyond his St. Paul border.

MNProgressiveProject interviews Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner, who is running for governor.

2012

The DNC is already thinking about 2012 by naming a commission to study the primary and caucus calendar. Minneapolis activist Roseanne Hope is on the commission.

The Economic Club of Minnesota will host Gary Stern, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, on Thursday. Stern will speak at the Minneapolis Club at 12:00 p.m.

2012 Bracket Busters!

NPR has created a bracket of the possible Republican candidates for president in 2012. Gov. Pawlenty was slated as a #2 seed and thumped Tom Tancredo in the first round. The second round could be a bit tougher since Pawlenty is facing Newt Gingrich. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are the #1 seeds. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is the other #2 seed.

Pawlenty appoints Dave Metzen to head Minnesota Office of Higher Education

Gov. Pawlenty just announced that he's appointing Dave Metzen to head the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. Metzen served on the Board of Regents at the University of Minnesota and was Chair of the Board of Regents from 2003-05. He also served as superintendent of the South St. Paul School District.

Metzen is the brother of Minnesota Senate President Jim Metzen.

Pawlent appointed Metzen even though two members of the Minnesota Senate urged him to keep the post unfilled to save money.
