Esme Murphy tells me that DFL Rep. Keith Ellison will be on WCCO Sunday morning. Ellison was part of the congressional delegation that visited the Gaza Strip earlier this week.

Legislative meetings draw big interest

Posted at 6:03 AM on February 21, 2009 by Tom Scheck

The first batch of public hearings regarding Minnesota's budget shortfall is over. House staff said that 2425 people attended the meetings on Thursday night and Friday morning (they didn't have data yet from Friday afternoon's hearings). 504 people testified.

There will be another round of meetings next week in the Twin Cities area.

Judging from the coverage , it appears lawmakers didn't find a magic bullet to balance the budget. It also seems that the public is as divided as the Legislature on how to solve a deficit that is only expected to grow when the next revenue forecast is released on March 3rd forecast.

DFLer Al Franken did an interview with Air America yesterday.

The Hotline">Hotline posted a portion of an interview for those who don't want to listen to the entire thing.

Here's the interesting nugget:

"The narrowing of the universe of these absentee ballots that could be counted is such that we really believe we're going to win, and we're going to win soon."

You can listen to the full interview here:

Meanwhile...

Attorneys for GOP Sen. Norm Coleman are working to revisit, and disqualify, ballots that were already counted.

Politico also reports that the RNC has shifted $250,000 to the Minnesota Republican Party to help Coleman with his legal efforts.
