Politico is reporting that Arizona Sen. John Kyl went to the Senate floor today to warn Democrats against trying to seat Al Franken.

Two things: First, the Republicans must know that they have lost this one. They have made an art out of denying the obvious -- and denying it loudly. What a pathetic gesture Kyl's was.

Second, if Harry Reid says it, then the opposite must be true. From his mouth issued the utterly stupendous prediction or fiat that no one appointed by Rod Blagoyevich would be seated -- in contravention of clear law. So for him to say Norm won't return carries about as much authority as my saying it. In his case, too, it's a pathetic case of Reid playing the Wizard -- he is so busy quaking in his boots that he has to say something outrageous to distract from his complete lack of authority.
