Pawlenty budget announcement at 1pm Tuesday.

Gov. Pawlenty's office says Pawlenty will make his budget announcement at 1 pm tomorrow at the Harold Stassen Revenue Building in St. Paul. Pawlenty was on Midday today. Bob Collins also live-blogged the show. Here were a few of the nuggets:

Pawlenty said there would be a 15% cut in expected spending increase in HHS programs. He said those programs would only increase at a 4% clip.

Pawlenty also opposed efforts to extend the sales tax to food, clothing and prescription drugs.

He said he would make some payment shifts.

He also said he'll cut business taxes.

Pawlenty is very much into cutting taxes on the rich and taxing the poorest more! Prescription drugs, food and clothing? How outrageous!

How about taxing income about 250,000 at the same overall Minnesota tax rate as the poorest 10% of the population! That by itself would balance the budget.

It is good news that the Government will present his budget on Tuesday.

Grace Kelly,

Read the post again: Pawlenty opposes extending the sales tax to prescription drugs, food, and clothing.

If we taxed the income of those making $250,000 or more at the same rate as the bottom 10%, we would be taxing them at 5.35%, Minnesota's lowest income tax bracket, instead of 7.85%, the state's highest bracket.
