The debate over debates begins in the 6th district

Elwyn Tinklenberg, the DFL challenger in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, has announced his plans to participate in a candidate forum later this month in Scandia.

But it's not clear whether incumbent U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., will be there too. She was invited but hasn't confirmed. The Sept. 23 event at the Scandia Community Center is sponsored by Scandia Citizens for a Good Life and is billed as a town hall meeting.

Just one debate between Tinklenberg and Bachmann has been nailed down Sept. 29 in Monticello. But during a primary night interview, Bachmann sounded confident that more joint appearances would be worked out soon.

"There have been requests that have come into our office. And I know our campaign scheduler has been looking at that carefully. So, I have no doubt that we will," Bachmann said.

Michele Bachmann has not held a single public meeting with constituents in the 6th CD since she has been in office (maybe MPR should ask her why). So why should she start now?
