The pre-primary campaign finance reports are in. Well, they've been in for a few weeks but I was busy in Denver, Dayton and St. Paul. Anyhoo, the House DFL Caucus is leading the House Republican Caucus in the money race.
The DFL House Caucus has $946k on hand.
The House Republicans has $876k on hand.
A DFL House staffer said it's the first time they led in the pre-primary money race in a long time.
Remember, money doesn't equal votes. DFLers also have a larger pool of incumbents to defend.
Hmm...a couple of things to note.
1. A DFL House staffer said it's the first time they led in the pre-primary money race in a long time. That's because it's the first time in a long time that they've had the majority. The majority party always raises more money.
2. They got a nice $125,000 gift from the teacher's union on August 14. Without that, which came four days before the reporting period ended, they would have been ~$50K behind. Looks to me like somebody was trying to pad their report to avoid the embarrasment of being out raised.
