Former Democrat turned Independent Tim Penny appeared at a GOP sponsored news conference to offer support for Republican John McCain. The news conference, which was held a mile from Denver's Pepsi Center, was meant to counter the Democratic goodwill at the convention. Penny, who endorsed McCain last year, said McCain has more experience than Democrat Barack Obama.
"I went to Congress with John McCain in 1982. I know him. I trust him. What I know about John McCain is that he's a true statesman who will always put the country first."
Penny served in Congress as a DFLer. He later became an Independent and lost his 2002 bid for governor to Republican Tim Pawlenty. When asked whether he thought Pawlenty would make a good running mate, Penny said:
"I don't think he's had a very remarkable record as governor. He focused mostly on easy issues and popular issues and this is a step up and I'm not sure he's as well prepared as others for this step up but it's McCain's choice to make."
Despite the Dems and the allied main stream media’s desperation to see Romney as McCain’s Veep, Mitt is clearly out, with (1) Obama doubling down on the class warfare theme (McCain’s 7 houses) and (2) McCain doubling down with ads showing the hypocrisy of Biden attacking Obama in the primaries — Romney did way more than that contra McCain.
This leaves only Govs Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty. Pro-abortion Ridge and Dem-Lieberman were never real considerations, despite relentless media goading. Pawlenty’s lackluster TV performances, coupled with Palin pizzazz, the primacy of oil drilling and the ticked off women/Hillary voters, does now portend a McCain/Palin checkmate on the Dems. This is so albeit the Dems and liberal media dare not mention Palin’s name, that is, everyone but…..
And if there’s any question as to Palin being uniquely positioned and able to more than nullify Biden in debate, see the excellent discussion at palinforvp.blogspot.com
Team McCain, well done!!!
How about this for some "Palin pizzazz": An Alaskan legislative investigation has begun into allegations that Palin fired Alaska's public safety commissioner because he refused to fire a state trooper involved in a messy divorce with Palin's sister.

Palin is out for the same reason Jindal is out - both have been governor for less time Obama has been in the US Senate. If McCain wants to pick a woman it will have to be one with a much better resume.
Rumor has it Pawlenty has been leaked as McCain's pick. As much as republicans would have loved a stake in the heart vice pres pick, there just wasn't one available. Most either alienate part of a key demographic, or they are being investigated for corruption (LOTS of republicans are having their dirty laundry drug out, and it is as shamefully corrupt as the democratic party of forty years ago). Pawlenty is mediocre, and not even outstandingly popular in his home state, but he is a safe pick in a race that cant afford a single slip up.
