For Minnesota Democrats, it's a historic night featuring Barack Obama. For Minnesota Republicans, it could be a historic night if John McCain picks Gov. Pawlenty as his running mate. The Digest is brief today but nothing else should matter in your political universe.
Here we go...
Barack Obama accepts his party's nomination to be president of the United States. He's the first African American to win a major party nomination for president. The New York Times has a profile of Pawlenty.
From King to Obama, the dream comes full circle for some African Americans.
Obama's running mate, Joe Biden, says the nation needs more than a good soldier.
Minnesota delegates like Biden as a running mate.
The delegates also say they'll rally around Obama.

MPR's Mark Zdechlik sends along a note saying Gov. Pawlenty briefly congratulated Barack Obama for winning the Democratic nomination. He then skewered Obama for his experience.
On the VP front, Pawlenty stuck to the familiar talking points - no speculation. When asked about his qualifications, he said he was a governor for six years, head of the Minnesota National Guard for six years (which comes with being governor) and was Majority Leader of the Minneosta House.
Pawlenty said he's leaving Denver this afternoon and is scheduled and planning to be in Minnesota tomorrow.
This old chap is getting ready to board a flight to Dayton and is wondering whether the governor will be there.
Tea leaf alert: Pawlenty's official spokesman Brian McClung was in Denver (he said he was on vacation). He told reporters that he would be on vacation for the next couple of weeks.

Reports say Gov. Pawlenty cancelled some interviews in Denver increasing speculation among the chatterin class. His public schedule says he's doing his radio show from the State Fair on Friday morning. Mark Halperin is reporting that Pawlenty is also scheduled to do Meet the Press on Sunday.
Any guesses?
