Breaking 100 to be in the Gang of 100

Posted at 2:09 PM on June 10, 2008 by Tom Scheck (3 Comments)

MinnPost says former Sen. Dean Barkley wants to challenge former Gov. Jesse Ventura to a high stakes game of golf on Wednesday. He said the loser of the match has to run for the U.S. Senate this year. Both Ventura and Barkley have expressed interest in a run for the seat.

Barkley says he can beat Ventura. I can't find Barkley's handicap but Ventura has a handicap of 11.7

MPR's Tim Pugmire said Barkley is slated to appear before the I-P endorsing convention on June 21. Independence Party Chair Craig Swaggart said Stephen Williams, Kurt Anderson and William McGaughey are also vying for the endorsement. The I-P candidate will likely face GOP Sen. Norm Coleman and Democrat Al Franken.

It's pretty sad when a decision as important as running for the U.S. Senate is reduced to the outcome of a golf game. Is it any wonder why Ventura, and now Barkley, and their so-called "party" are considered a joke?

It's also pretty sad when a joke is taken seriously.
