Gov. Tim Pawlenty is scheduled to be on public TV's Almanac program tonight. So far no news on the bonding bill. Maybe he'll make some there.
UPDATE: The governor's office just said he will not take action on the bonding bill until Monday, so there's one less reason to watch Almanac--whoops, just kidding!
I drove down to Albert Lea to observe the CD1 Republican Convention last week; while there, I heard Gov. Pawlenty's speech, in which he made clear his fervent Reagan admiration. This puzzled me, so I asked him [via email] this hypothetical:
What if we had a president who wanted to provide funds to an unpopular guerilla army. Congress refused to provide him with the funds needed, so he illegally and secretly sold weapons to a terrorist, enemy country in order to get around our democratic system of government. What if, as the transaction was occurring, he publicly asserted that no such thing was happening? Wouldn't such conduct make that president guilty of treason?
Gov. Pawlenty sent me a form-letter response. But this is a serious question and merits a thoughtful response, imho. What say Polinauts?
