The Digest has a special Iowa feel this morning. With less than a month left before the Iowa caucuses, MPR goes on the road to cover the event.

Minnesota college students are excited to take part in what they call a once in a lifetime event.

Meanwhile, Minnesota campaigns are organizing outside of the Iowa spotlight.

2008 RNC

The Pi Press says people are trying to rent their homes to convention visitors.

St. Paul cops say St. Paul will remain open during the RNC Convention.

State government

The Star Tribune says the NFL is increasing its stadium lobbying. Watch out! Stadium threats are coming.

Speaking of stadiums, the foundation for the U of M stadium is finished.

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie was sending campaign e-mail to state accounts.

Gov. Pawlenty and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson form a wind power association.

Minnesota is poised to be the third largest producer of wind energy.

Minnesota's first major power line plan in a generation will get plenty of discussion. The Star Tribune and Forum Communications have stories.

Forum Communications says partisanship is growing in Minnesota and across the nation.

The Duluth News Tribune says the Iron Range is preparing for a boom.

The loon population is dwindling. Are the loons that live on Lake Superior in trouble?

Congress

The Star Tribune says GOP Rep. John Kline is at the center of a fight over earmarks.

Speaking of earmarks, The Taxpayers for Common Sense says DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar is brining home $11.4 million in earmarks. Here's a story.

Minnesota's Senators take an active role in the Farm Bill. Some stories focus on GOP Sen. Norm Coleman's efforts.

DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar talks toy safety in Moorhead.

She also talks about efforts to prevent spousal abuse.

GOP Rep. John Kline announces funding for a project in Frontenac.

Kline's son will also start his second tour or duty on Jan. 1.

DFL Rep. Betty McCollum is mentioned in this story that focuses on preventing diploma mills.

Security workers are claiming discrimination by a local firm. DFL Rep. Keith Ellison is mentioned.

Ellison also spoke at the Council on American-Islamic Relation's annual banquet and fundraiser

2008

The Asian American Press writes about DFLer Ashwin Madia, who is running in Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District.

One of his opponents, Edina Mayor Jim Hovland (who switched from the GOP to run as a DFLer in the 3rd) will liveblog tonight.

This morning on the Iowa broadcast, you (I believe you are the writer of this blog, right?) noted that, while a goodly number of people who supported Howard Dean in 2004 now support Ron Paul, you could see nothing the two had in common.

I believe the issue in common is heartfelt opposition to the war against Iraq.

And while Dean would have made a thoughtful, liberal president who would NEVER carry out preemptive wars, he was done in by a moment of exuberance. Paul, on the other hand, while right on the war, has seemingly plausible but strange views on taxation that those planning to vote for him should check out.
