I knew that would get your attention. I'm gathering a list of the top political quotes and top political stories of the year. But I need your help! Please post a comment on what tops your list. If it's a quote, please include the source. It can come from anyone as long as it relates to Minnesota politics. The same for the top political stories.
You can also send me an e-mail (if you're really shy) at tscheck@mpr.org ...
I'm interested to see what people come up with. We'll post the finalists at the end of the year.
Ah... this is easy...
Sen. Larry Craig: 'I am not gay'
Independent voter searching for a candidate….
I have narrowed my choices for president, of current candidates, down to two; Ron Paul & Bill Richardson. My question, which has a better chance of winning his party’s nomination?
Which candidate would I better serve by attending his party’s caucus?
These comments all drew a lot of attention this year. They've been quoted by multiple sources.
"A bridge in America just shouldn't fall down."
--Amy Klobuchar, August 2, 2007.
"It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that...After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and it put the leader of that country in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted...I'm not saying [9/11] was a [U.S.] plan, or anything like that, because, you know, that's how they put you in the nut-ball box — dismiss you."
--Keith Ellison, July 9, 2007.
“Iran is the trouble maker, trying to tip over apple carts all over Baghdad right now because they want America to pull out. And do you know why? It’s because they’ve already decided that they’re going to partition Iraq, and half of Iraq, the western, northern portion of Iraq, is going to be called…. the Iraq State of Islam, something like that. And I’m sorry, I don’t have the official name, but it’s meant to be the training ground for the terrorists. There’s already an agreement made."
--Michele Bachmann, February 9, 2007.
