All you need is... Ron Paul?

Posted at 1:01 PM on October 1, 2007 by Bob Collins (10 Comments)

The Ron Paul brigade must've been out in force early this morning, slapping up "Ron Paul Revolution" signs on freeway overpasses.

"Revolution" is in black letters and the E-V-O-L part is in red letters.... making some sort of weird "I buried Paul" message -- OK, it actually spells LOVE backwards." Not sure what that's all about.

Do they profess love for Ron Paul? Love for revolution? Or maybe they just want some Ron Paul love? Or maybe it really is EVOL... for evolving; like Mitt Romney's position on abortion or something.

It made me want to put on some Jefferson Airplane.

It made me want to vomit. Why do I get the feeling that behind the Ron Paul movement are a bunch of 9/11 conspiracy theorists, Israel-haters, and general nutcases?

Because you're an idiot. Ron Paul is the only one who is making any sense about what is good for this country and the people in it. If you want to continue to see your freedoms thrown away and stepped on, vote for a mainstream candidate, any one, take your pick, they're all the same.

Ron Paul has a no BS appeal. Reminds of a Right Wing Howard Dean.

Ron Paul is the most committed, idealistic politician I have ever encountered.

He has...
-Never voted to raise taxes
-Never voted for government spending to excede revenue
-Never voted to raise congressional pay
-Never voted to increase the power of the executive branch or the president
-Never taken a government-paid junket
-Refused his congressional pension (despite being very lucrative)
-Always returned a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year

He also voted against the Iraq war

But he is a "9/11 conspiracy theorist, Israel hater, and a nutcase"?

Who could be better than someone who doesn't want more money or more power?

to be quite blunt, i don't think there is a message behind it. i think some Ron Paul activists realized that you could spell 'love' backwards in revolution and did it. just some people sitting in a room going 'did you know that love is backwards in revolution?' 'no, sounds like something to put on a campaign poster'

I helped make some of those signs. Along with my wife, child, and sister. I am a jewish israel lover, I harbor no crazy theories about 9-11, and I am a responsible loving parent and taxpayer who wants nothing more than sound money, small government, and liberty for me and my family.

I'll take Jefferson Airplane over Ron Paul.
Heck, I'll take Starship over him.
Wait...no I wouldn't. If Starship were running for President against Ron Paul, I'd probably vote for myself.

Mr. Collins,

I think you do a disservice by trivializing Dr. Paul and the efforts of his supporters. For people who might be unaware of the candidate you offered an article with no real substance regarding Ron Paul, his platform, or any facts about him.

I encourage people to watch the man in you-tube clips of the debates, to watch some interviews, and to read what he says. He's a straight-talker like we don't often see in politics. What he says makes sense, and his consistant record over ten terms puts credibility behind his words.

Look for yourself.

As a home-grown Minnesota democrat, I can say that Ron Paul's appeal to our independents and democrats is going to be significant. The only thing in the way is the slower-shifting, thick-skulled mid-aged ex-hippies, which can't seem to accept that someone who actually speaks some truth is running as a republican. Maybe not nationally, but in Minnesota, if Ron was running as a Dem, he would have around 100x the support, as the democrat base would actual give his ideas a chance. It's really too bad.
