Capitol View

If it were a slow day...

If it were a slow day and there was nothing else to do, I'd take a long look at the official logo for the RNC 2008 convention host committee and try to figure out how they decided what buildings made it.

Take, St. Paul, for instance. The Capitol. Cool. First Bank? Yeah, that's kind of an icon. The Travelers building? A company that just took St. Paul out of its name? One that the chair of the host committee used to run? And why is the building so big? It towers over the Capitol and the First Bank building. What subtle message is that telling us?

And the bridge....what's the message delivered by the bridge?

Yep, I'd use the awesome power of the Internet to create an entire subculture of conspiracy that will make the Proctor & Gamble logo and "I buried Paul" look tame by comparison.

Nah....

Although it's a good thing the convention isn't being held in Sleepy Eye.

hey, who said you could hate on Sleepy Eye? though there are more pro-life signs than people and they tried to ban MTV awhile back, it's still a pretty rockin place.

Darfur, MN on the other hand....

Johnny...Johnny...Johnny.... Think, man! It's got nothing to do with politics or the town. I love the town. Best airport I ever flew into.

But do me a favor. Given that the post was about the logo...which based on the dominant features of the skyline.... design me a logo on the basis of a convention in Sleepy Eye.

Don't make me spell it out.

I want to know how long you've been keeping this Sleepy Eye reference under your hat... just biding your time til you could use it. I can imagine the last 3 years of your life looking for stories to comment on, asking every time, can I use the Sleepy Eye picture here?

George, I'd say you nailed it. It's been about 5 years since I first saw it and said, "ummmm... does ANYBODY else notice anything odd here?"

But, yeah, I've never been able to work it in until now.
