President Bush declares a disaster area in 3 southeastern Minnesota counties. The Star Tribune and MPR have stories.

The announcement was made by Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff. He joined Gov. Pawlenty on a tour of southeastern Minnesota. The tour continues today with GOP Sen. Norm Coleman. AP and MPR have stories.

Southeastern lawmakers call for a special session to deal with the flooding.

DFL Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller and DFL House Speaker Margaret Kelliher will be on MPR's Midday at 11 this morning.

MnDOT is promising $27 million in bonuses if the contractor finishes the I-35W bridge three months ahead of schedule. The Star Tribune, the AP, the Pi Press and MPR have stories. Here are some of the other incentives -- a $100,000 incentive if the contractor does good PR. The contractors who don't win the contract will get a $400,000 stipend for the effort.

Former U.S. Army Gen. Barry McCaffrey says the nation needs to start investing more in its infrastructure.

GOP Rep. Jim Ramstad helps a student journalist in Africa. Some in Uganda are calling for her to be deported because she covered a news conference called by gay activist.

DFL Rep. Keith Ellison joins an anti-semitism panel.

Ellison is also headed to Vegas for a DNC event.

A Fox News panel discusses DFL Rep. Jim Oberstar's proposal to increase the federal gas tax.

2008

GOP Sen. Norm Coleman's campaign is going to benefit from a Rightroots campaign.

KARE-11 says the pro war ad campaign features a Minnesotan. Coleman, Ramstad and GOP Sen. Michele Bachmann are the three candidates targeted in Minnesota.

The three confirmed DFLers who are running for the U.S. Senate will debate the issues on TPT's Almanac program tonight.
