The bridge collapse leads this brief digest today. I'm not going to link to many particular stories. Instead, please check MPR, the Star Tribune, the Pi Press, the AP, WCCO, KARE-11, FOX 9, KSTP-TV and Forum Communications for updates.

The only story I'm linking to is a Star Tribune report saying the bridge was "structurally deficient" in 2005. This contradicts statements made from MNDOT officials last night.

These are just some of the questions remaining this morning.

1) How many people are missing/remaining in the river?
2) What caused the collapse?
3) How do you replace this major road? How quickly will it take to replace?

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones, have loved ones missing and those who have been injured from the collapse.

2008

President Bush may come survey the damage from the collapse over the next week. He is scheduled to give a 10 AM CST address from the Rose Garden on the collapse.

Bush is also coming to the Twin Cities later this month to raise money for GOP Sen. Norm Coleman's reelection efforts. AP has the story.

A veterans group is also running ads praising Coleman. MPR and the Star Tribune have stories.

You don't need to post this comment, but some of your links are broken: Star Trib, Pioneer Press, and KARE-11 are all bad.

THIS NATION CANNOT CONTINUE TO SAVE MONEY ON INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE AND INSTEAD OFFER TAX BREAKS TO CORPORATIONS AND THE RICH AS WELL AS PROMOTING DUBIOUS 'WARS' LIKE THE ONE IN IRAQ...OUR PEOPLE GOT HURT HERE...AND I THINK WE SHALL FIND OUT THAT STANDARDS FOR SAFETY WERE DOWNGRADED FOR LACK OF MONEY TO REPAIR, MAINTAIN AND MANAGE OUR OWN INFRASTRUCTURE...SINCE THE TIME OF REAGAN, WE HAVE IGNORED THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF MAINTAINING THE COMMON ROADWAYS AND BRIDGES OF THIS COUNTRY...AND THIS WAS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT WILL BE COMING IF WE FAIL TO PAY ATTENTION , AND WORK TO MAINTAIN WHAT WE BUILD...WITH TAX MONEY.
