I was trying to write this for the past couple of days but was getting stretched in different directions. So for those of you who are interested in a special session -- there are a few (albeit minor) updates. First, Gov. Pawlenty met with DFL House Speaker Margaret Kelliher and DFL Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller in the middle of last month. I'm told it was nothing serious but more informal discussions on the prospects of a special session. Pogemiller called the talks "cordial" but didn't get the impression that Pawlenty was interested in a special session. Pogemiller said he'd be open to a special session that focused on jobs and the economy (tax bill, bonding bill and nursing home $).
DFL Senator Keith Langseth also said that he met with Finance Commissioner Tom Hansen to discuss a possible bonding bill in a possible special session. Langseth said part of the discussions focused on borrowing for transportation projects which Langseth said was out of the question. Langseth said he and Pawlenty are trying to find time to meet.
So that's the update (if you want to call it that).
