Gov. Pawlenty and legislative leaders still haven't reached a budget deal but insist there won't be a special session. Closed door meetings are scheduled to begin around the lunch hour on Sunday. MPR, the Pi Press, the Star Tribune, Forum Communications, AP and the Mesabi Daily News have stories.
Lawrence Schumacher, with the St. Cloud Times, says deception is a part of the final budget talks.
The House passes the Outdoors amendment. The Star Tribune and ECM have stories.
The New York Times writes about the Legislature, in particular the fight over a gas tax increase.
The House GOP was unsuccessful in getting a vote on a different transportation bill.
Legislature approves city county library merger.
The Legislature also approves aid to Browns Valley.
The Star Tribune writes on the Vikings again. It's basically the same story that was written last week and last month and two months ago.
Other
The Detroit Free Press writes about the upcoming conference for the National Governor's Association. That's when Gov. Pawlenty will become the chair of the NGA.
Congress
A spokesman for GOP Sen. Norm Coleman says Coleman likes some parts of the immigration bill.
The White House calls the Senate's upcoming "no confidence vote" futile. Coleman is mentioned.
Hmong refugees from Laos fear being sent back. Coleman is mentioned.
DFL Rep. Tim Walz visits Winona with 3 medals for an Iraq war veteran.
Indiana Sen. Dick Lugar wants to rewrite the nation's farm policy. DFL Rep. Collin Peterson is mentioned.

The Dems are crazy if they go into Special Session on the property tax cut issue. It's their big chance to take a chunk out of one of the GOP's core issues, and besides--it's the right thing to do. (People on fixed incomes pay higher property taxes so the Gov and the GOP can keep a lid on state taxes on billionaires and millionaires?)
Shoot. My comment above should read--The Dems are crazy if they DON'T go into Special Session on the property tax cut issue.
