I was catching up on some reading over the weekend when I noticed this little item in the Time Magazine story on Mitt Romney. Does the end of this paragraph sound familiar?
Romney's ads and campaign speeches boast of engineering an economic turnaround. But Michael Widmer, president of the nonpartisan Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, points out that the state has lagged most others in job growth. And while Romney closed a $3 billion deficit without raising taxes, he did it in part by raising numerous fees, as well as shifting some of the burden by cutting aid to cities and municipalities.
Meanwhile, Governor Pawlenty touted his session accomplishments in a web video. The campaign sent a fundraising e-mail touting the video last week.
UPDATE: A loyal Polinaut reader points out that property taxes and cigarette taxes (er, fees) have gone up under Pawlenty's tenure.

He signed a tax increase on Hennepin County Taxpayers for the Stadium swindle. I call him Governor Pawlenty of Tax Increases for that one.
