Hard to believe just a week ago we had no real idea how the election would turn out. Now that the dust is settling, how about a look back at some of the things that were said in the closing days? Did these people really believe these things? Did they have to convince themselves of the truth to keep running? What do you think?
"I am absolutely convinced that the tide is on our side that we have a lot of good momentum." Mark Kennedy—MPR 11-06-6
At the podium Gov. Pawlenty referred to Kennedy as the "comeback kid."—MPR 11-06-06
"There's a lot of people who for quite some time who wanted to declare this election over and have wanted to say Amy Klobuchar won and Mark Kennedy can't win. And we're about the business of proving them wrong." Kennedy campaign manager Pat Shortridge –MPR 11-02-06
Bush credited Rumsfeld with overseeing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan while overhauling the military. "I'm pleased with the progress we're making," the president said. He replied in the affirmative when asked if he wanted Rumsfeld and Cheney to stay with him until the end. –AP 11-01-06
"Look, I'm looking at all these, Robert, and adding them up. And I add up to a Republican Senate and a Republican House. You may end up with a different math, but you're entitled to your math. I'm entitled to "the" math.” Karl Rove—NPR 10-24-06
Another example: the hacktacular Hugh Hewitt predicted a Republican gain of +3 in the House.
