It's pretty thin soup for political coverage today so let's lead with tomorrow's news today. The budget forecast is scheduled to be released tomorrow. The AP has a preview and suggests it could be good news.

Governor Pawlenty has a news conference at 11:30 to talk about an education proposal. Pawlenty also meets with GOP minority leaders in the House and Senate at 12:15. He and the First Lady will also light the Christmas Tree at the Governor's Residence at 6:15. I hope they have rain gear.

Tom Emmer, the Deputy Minority Leader in the Minnesota House, suggests the GOP needs to return to their core issues.

There are several recounts going on in Minnesota House races..

The St. Cloud Times has a story saying a state law will complicate small town firefighting.

The Minnesota Farmer's Union says the next legislative session will be filled with opportunities.

Congress

The AP has a q and a with Collin Peterson.

Gil Gutknecht talks to a KTTC-TV about his loss to DFLer Tim Walz. He will also close one of his offices this week.

GOP Senator Norm Coleman wants an investigation of Australia;s monopoly wheat exporter.

He also writes a blog entry on the subject here and says the issue is hurting U.S. farmers.

There's talk of payback because the Australians may have misled (i.e. lie) him.

Why is all of this happening? Because an Australian company is accused of paying bribes.

Other

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak also wants his fire chief removed. MPR and the Star Tribune have stories.

Contrary to earlier reports, the Muncie Star Press says Jesse Venture will not take part in a reality tv show based in Muncie, Indiana. Here's the story on who is working to get on the show.

Finally, the Washington Post has a story on the first professional musician elected to Congress.
