The Daily Digest: 9-21-06

Posted at 12:54 PM on September 21, 2006 by Tom Scheck

The firing of a key Klobuchar campaign staffer leads the digest. MPR, the Star Tribune, the Pioneer Press and the AP all have stories. The blogger in question is Noah Kunin, with blanked-out.com. He insists he didn't breach any security systems to view the ad. That's up to the FBI, I guess. What does this mean for the race? Who knows?

The Cook Political Report shifted its ranking of the Klobuchar/Kennedy matchup from toss up to leans Democrat. Maybe it gets shifted back because of the recent fallout?

The race for governor is close, according to two polls. The MPR/Pioneer Press poll and the University of Minnesota poll say it's close. Bill Salisbury with the Pi Press and WCCO-TV's Pat Kessler basically say health care and education are keeping Hatch in it.

Pawlenty and Hatch have set their debate schedule for the rest of the campaign. Forum Communications, AP and the Star Tribune have stories.

The Mesabi Energy Coal gasification plant becomes a tit for tat in the governor's race.

There's a Star Tribune poll saying people want more money for roads.

The St. Cloud Times has a story on where the candidates running for Congress in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District stand on foreign policy issues.

Pat Sweeney, with the Pi Press, says more Americans go online for their political news. I guess we can call Polinaut a growth industry.

Finally, there's a candidates running for Congress in California named Charlie Brown. Charlie Brown! Here's the best part. He's running against someone with the last name of Doolittle. I wonder if he's a doctor. If so, it could be a problem for poor ol' chuck. Where in the heck does Snoopy stand on this race? Sorry, I'm sleep deprived and slap happy.
