Polinaut's shutting down!

Posted at 1:42 PM on September 21, 2006 by Bob Collins (21 Comments)

Someone broke into Scott Howell's Web site the other night, so in the interest of security, we're shutting down Polinaut.

Laugh if you will, but this seems like a prudent course of action in times of high security concerns.

I'm following the lead of some folks who must know something I don't, and others who've gone before.

You can't be too careful.

Let me know when it's safe again.

Signed,
Bob

Run for the hills! Run for the hills! The internet-security apocolypse is comin'!

(While you're at it, could you give us a little cash?)

"One page we are absolutely confident remains secure is our contribution page."

Cheesiest stunt I've seen in a while.

Shhhh.... the bloggers might hear you. We don't want them to find us.

I am sure you don't have any problem with the DSCC acessing Michael Steele's credit reports. I am sure they weren't password protected either.

And didn't the woman who mailed the Bush 01 ads to Al Gore go to jail?

Shhh.... it's not about the rightness or wrongness of what they did on another site. I'm just trying to keep THIS site locked down. Everyone can go to jail if that's the way it works out.

Shhhhh....

Duck and cover.

Slow day in the news room...

I have it on good authority that not only are the Internets all insecure, but someone is apparently listening to our phone calls without FISA warrants... shhhh...

Hehehe...I'm actually at home today recuperating from some surgery. Maybe the painkillers have made me paranoid?

Or maybe it's because I have Monday's Senate poll numbers and I'm afraid ....you know.... THEY... will bust in and get 'em.

It's the tubes, Senator Stevens. The tubes are to blame.

Sorry, but I don't find it particularly funny that someone took a video that was made for a senate candidate that had NOT been released on the vendors's site in an concerted effort to give it to the other party's senate candidate. In fact, I find it serious, and clearly so did Amy as she contacted the FBI. Get over yourself Bob, and let Tom take over your site again.

You missed the point entirely, MB. The post had nothing to do with the taking, stealing, borrowing, or downloading of the video on Scott Howell's site.

Nothing at all.

Go read the stories again about WHOSE site the stuff was retrieved from and then compare it to WHOSE site is shut down becuase of it, and then maybe it'll make sense to you.

Then compare the two answers and you'll see the non sequitur.

Bob, I appreciate your levity in this.

But can we get back to talking about the issues now?

Posted by atom | September 21, 2006 3:22 PM

Is it safe to come out?

Maybe we can talk about privacy initiatives?

Compared to what was passing for political news today, THIS was serious!

Snarkasm becomes you Bob.

Posted by Mark Gisleson | September 21, 2006 3:24 PM

Snarkasm. Haven't heard that before.

Posted by Bob Collins | September 21, 2006 3:41 PM

Take your own comments of cut and run and cut yourself from Polinaunt and run away from MPR. We need less snarkasm and more genuinesss. MPR, Almanac and Minnesota politics needs new generation of fresh ideas from different people, the existing political commentators are getting tired. Please give the blog to Tom or someone else.

I tend to give calls for more "genuineness" more consideration when they comes from someone who posts their real name. But that's just me. Old school, you know.

But we are a big tent, MB. We don't purge those who have a different approach; we welcome them.

Welcome, MB.

Can we PLEASE move on to more important topics like who the Indians can sign for the bullpen next year, and who should get the first shot at third base?

(Bob responds: Choo looks like a shoe-in....or is it a Choo-in at first. Marte goes to third. The bullpen? Ah, that's another story. Funny that Wickman signed for another year in Atlanta. Everyone thought this would be it for him.)

thanks for the laugh Bob. Great post, too bad some folks have to take everything so seriously. oops - back to the tubes!

HEY MB!!!

Do you spell "anal retentive" with or without a hyphen? Let's move forward here. Bobby is the best there is!
