The filing period for candidates opens today and runs until July 18th. We'll find out by then if everyone who's threatened to run in the primary against various endorsed candidates actually follows through.
I was off celebrating the nation's independence yesterday and nowhere near a computer. Interesting to note that Zack Stephenson of MN Publius has made it official: he's going to work for Amy Klobuchar.
Speaking of Independence Day, I mentioned the other day that my neighborhood was relatively quiet. Well, the moron who kept me up until after 1 a.m. last night with his fireworks show changed all that. And for that I thank Jesse Ventura.
Like people were not going out of state and getting fireworks before Jesse signed a law -- that both houses of the State Legislature passed -- get over it. Not everything bad signed into law from 1998 to 2002 (1999 to 2002 legislative sessions) is Jesse's fault!
So does that mean everything good goes into the GOP or DFL leaderships plus column?
What reason would you have given to veto the bill?
I hope someone in the press will note that many candidates have more to do than wait overnight at the secretary of state's office and pay a fee.
There has been no mention in TC press about independent candidates, who are required to collect signatures over just 15 days between the 4th and 18th. Many of us spent our holiday knocking on doors and talking to voters, and it just seems like there should be some mention of it somewhere. State legislative candidates like me only need to collect 500, which should allow me to keep my job and meet the goal, but other office seekers, like Phillip Parrish, who is running for governor, need to collect many, many more. A little media attention to independents would certainly be a civic service. It's interesting that the MSM isn't interested in reporting on it.
Brian, to quote the former governor: "It was a joke, joke, joke."
