Can you make a note of who is running for higher office and who is 'actually' retiring?

MN Campaign finance board has three of these running for higher office. Lourey for Governor, Entenza and J. Johnson for Attorney General.

Bachmann and Ellison are the only two I know of for federal office. I wasn't able to find public disclosure of registered candidates for US House or Senate with the FEC, so I can't help there. Wish I did know where to find that info.

On an unrelated note, I noticed Tim Penny registered 3/3/06 - I didn't realize he was running.

No, Kiscaden is a DFLer. She switched parties when she announced she was joining the Doran campaign.

Tim Penny is NOT running.

Good source of campaign financial data and registered candidates can be found fecinfo.com

Doug Meslow is missing from the list. He is the 19th House member to retire.

Hi fellow news hounds. I'm puzzled to find MPR so behind on campaign news.

A lot has happened over the long Memorial Day week-end. I found myself personally more moved than ever this year by Memorial Day, as a day honoring our nation's patriots, the service men and women who have died in defense of our country. No matter how ill-advised the policies of the leaders of the United States have been in this unnecessary, so-called pre-emptive war, every soldier who dies in the service of our country is a patriot, and many many more will carry the physical and emotional scars of their service for the rest of their lives.

I took part in the Memorial Day parade in west Duluth on Monday, and along the route, I saw so many men and women in uniform, some, by their age, had seen service in World War II, and I saw others who have served through many wars through the decades--the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf war, and now to the present war in Iraq. I salute them.

Did Mike Collins notice that Ford Bell, hopelessly behind in the DFL race for delegates at the state DFL convention in June, has dropped out of the race for DFL endorsement, but instead, announced he will run in the primary! Just what the DFL needs--more infighting.

Is Ford Bell a closet Republican, intent on supporting Mark Kennedy (R) in his bid for the US Senate seat? I can't see any other result, except embarrassment for Ford Bell, unnecessary expenses and diversion of resources for Amy Klobuchar's campaign, and clear sailing for Mark Kennedy. Don't be fooled by Mark's last name, by the way. There's no resemblance between his views and those of the Massachusetts Kennedys. MARK Kennedy has an ACLU life-time rating from his two terms in the US Congress of 4%. Yes, that was not a typo: 4 percent! Contrast that with Dayton, 100%, Coleman, 100%; and Oberstar, 96%. Is Mark Kennedy Attila the Hun in disguise?

Hey MPR! Wake up! How are DFL leaders reacting to this newest development with Ford Bell?

This has to be an unwelcome development for Amy Klobuchar. She has mobilized support from DFL voters in the caucus process throughout the state.
She is one of the best and the brightest I have ever seen running for public office. She is now serving her second term as Hennepin County attorney, an elected position. She is a dynamic speaker, with integrity which will not be compromised, she has a sense of humor, and an ability to voice her viewpoint clearly, and to remain steadfast against an opponent, while still projecting respect for others. She has a quick wit and will be able to hold her own in the halls of Congress. And she has the energy and drive to represent Minnesota. Throughout her campaign, she has been able to mobilize support through her powerful message: bring decency back to the US Senate and Congress, restore our committment to the citizens of our country--the working men and women, the elderly and the disabled, and to our children. She has a vision for the future of universal health care for all citizens, starting with our children, supporting education, of developing alternative energy, so as to stop our dependence on foreign oil.

She is opposed to the war in Iraq, and has been against it from the start. She believes we should start withdrawing our troops; and that we need a plan to do so in a responsible manner. She wants to reverse the cuts in education and medicare, and to once again make us a nation which takes care of our elderly and disabled, our most vulnerable citizens. She believes in an international policy which helps other nations, but not at the expense of exporting US jobs abroad.

I'm really disappointed in Ford Bell. He has been quoted as explaining that he is running in the primary because he is "the only one" who is for all of the policies which I just mentioned, and which Amy Klobuchar stands for. Does he think anyone is fooled? He has taken a stand which is indefensible. He has soiled his own reputation by distortion and misrepresentation of Amy Klobuchar's very clear positions. In doing so, he calls his own integrity into question. Shame on you, Ford Bell. If you really believe in the issues as you say you do, bow out now, gracefully.

What do you mean, posted by "darn?" that was me, and if I have a "handle" it's foxpawpress. As A.J. Liebling wrote, the power of the press belongs to those who own one. Please correct the above comment to reflect that it was posted by me, RA Scott, or "foxpawpress," please. Thanks!

Good riddance, Irv. This guy has been brain-dead and propped up by the DFL for the past 10 years.
