"Republicans contend that Bachmann’s strongly conservative views on both social and economic issues neatly fit the leanings of voters in the 6th, which stretches from Minneapolis-St. Paul suburbs northwest to the city of St. Cloud. They note that Bush, who narrowly lost Minnesota as a whole, took 57 percent of the 6th District vote.
"Democrats, who need a net gain of 15 seats nationally to gain a House majority, argue that the 6th is eminently winnable for them. They choose to focus on Wetterling’s candidate debut as their 2004 nominee, in which she held Kennedy, already touted as a GOP rising star, to 54 percent."
Interesting. Wetterling doesn't want to be "labeled" while Bachman doesn't reject hers. It seems they both recognize which label will be applied to each, and which one is valuable in this race.
From CQ: "Bachmann, though, describes the 6th as the most socially conservative district in Minnesota and one of the most socially conservative in the nation."
Is that a realistic assessment? "one of the most socially conservative [districts] in the nation?"
Bachmann has been an ongoing embarrassment for Stillwater and would be the same for the 6th district if elected. This nutcase should not even be considered for the U.S. House, even in the very conservative 6th. Wetterling is not a very adept politician and has a lot to learn, but her heart is in the right place. Her goal is to recreate an America that provides the best environment possible for children to grow up in from a financial, medical, educational and social perspective. Politics for Patty is the necessary evil to achieve that vision. Politics for Bachmann is more about schoolgirl gushing in her new pink outfit at having custard with a divisive, disastous president who will be regarded by historians as perhaps our worst ever.
