Another House seat opens. Rep. Ron Abrams has been appointed to the bench by Gov. Tim Pawlenty. One of these days, I'll have to tally up how many House and Senate seats have been opened in the last few years by people Pawlenty has plucked for bigger things.
Anyway, that's a Minnetonka seat. But it won't open until after the session since Abrams says he wants to finish his legislative work too.
To start your list:
Abrams
Rep. Alice Seagren (commissioner of Education)
Sen. David Knutson (as a judge)
Sen. David Gaither (chief of staff)
Rep. Doug Stang (deputy commissioner of Dept. of Health, although I think he announced his retirement first)
Carol Molnau (as his running mate)
Dan McElroy (as his first COS)
Rep. Lynda Boudreau (deputy commish of Health, although Patti Fritz first defeated her)
It strikes me that this is a very winnable seat for the DFL. Abrams only got around 52% there last year, despite being a well-known incumbent.
Don't forget Stanek.
Pawlenty also plucked Rep. Mark Holsten (R-Stillwater) to be deputy commissioner for the DNR.
