Pawlenty on the CD

Posted at 3:27 PM on March 2, 2006 by Bob Collins (5 Comments)

Gov. Tim Pawlenty today weighed in on the controversy surrounding the CD being distributed by the Republican Party in support of a constitutional amendment defining marriage. The CD actually accumulates data from those who put it in their computer -- including, but not limited to, responses to questions it asks.

Pawlenty today said the CDs should make clear that the CD is mining information. Listen.

Bob: Do you feel any responsibility to correct the incorrect statements being made by the DFL/Steve Kelley about the CD?

Bob: Maybe I missed something but when did it become acceptable for the media to break into a computer database of a political party?

What if the Republican Party of Minnesota decided to break into an MPR database? Is that okay, too?

If I found a flaw in MPR's database, could I break in to prove a point?

Bob: How did you get the IP address? did you decompile the CD?
Decompiling the CD was a violation of the terms of agreement of the CD.

I guess defending the Republican Party of Minnesota and its candidates is part of Michael Bordkorb's job description at Weber Johnson Public Affairs. www.weberjohnsonpa.com

What I'd like to know is who's paying the bill for these lobbying expenses and on whose candidate's or party's behalf are they being reported to the state?

Sounds like a good story for MPR.

I believe Mr. Brodkorb's credibility might not have suffered if he was truly interested in telling the truth about all MN politics. Why didn't he choose to have a site titled Minnesota Politics Exposed? Why limit himself to the "truth" only about the DFL, hmmm?

Oh, and the "big deal" that this whiner sees about Brodkorb staking a claim to a web site name that could only serve to confuse others is not how one helps his credibility--

Seems to me that those people interested in the truth according to MDE are hiding behind the Constitution rather than advancing solid debate on the issues and democratic values.
